2007 SEMA show  Las Vagas Convention Center October 30, 2007

The Magic Raven occasionally takes a vacation and comes inside for a few days.  So last week, tuesday, October 30, flying low over Las Vegas he spotted the throngs of people hanging out at the Las Vegas Convention center.  The matting crowd was attending the SEMA show.

SEMA stands for the Specialty Equipment Market Association.    According to its organizers, it is  considered the premier automotive accessories trade event in the world.  Over 125,000 people attended this years event and the magic raven swears they were all there Tuesday when he flew in.  The show features move than 1,500 new automotive products and accessories arranged and displayed on over one million square feet of floor space.

I picked up my press credential around 10:30 in the morning and set out to explore this mega trade show.  My first impression was "Wow!"  Huge block long display areas went on for ever and ever.

I went to the Audio display area first where an old family friend, Sean Adler,  was showing customers his display car filled with automotive sound and video equipment.

Perhaps the most inovative and creative  advancement in automotive engineering was not on display on the convention floor but was tucked away in a small suite in the Hilton Hotel next to the convention center.  Away from the noisy convention floor up on the 11th floor was an invention designed by Alex Decuir of Decuir Engine Technologies.  Sitting on a pedestal in the center of the room were four very unusual valve train displays .

The photo just above on the right shows the Decuir Springless Valve.  Up to now all internal combustion engines use big heavy valve springs to open and close the valves that allow fuel to enter the engine cylinders and later allow exhaust particulates to exit the engine.  Most engines use two valves per cylinder.  On small engines it is estimated that 40% of the engines power is used just to raise and lower valve springs.  Mr. Decuir as been working for many years on  a completely new system.   He has eliminated the heavy springs from the valve train and replaced them with circular cams.  This patented new system is called the Decuir Springless Valve system and was on display for the first time at the SEMA show.  Dyno tests show gains in engine efficiency of over 30%.  Imagine, a 30% increase in gasoline mileage, a 30% increase in horse power and major decreases in smog pollution.  That's what the future holds for engines incorporating this system.

More information will be available soon at decuirenginetechnologies.com.  You will be able to see the engine running on a dyno and a more detailed explanation of how the valve train actually works.

Pictures above:  Alex Decuir shows Dusty Atwood and Howard Adler one of the finer points of the Decuir Springless Valve System.

The Decuir Springless Valve system will work in your truck, motorcycle, lawn mower, power generator and of course your personal automobile.  The Decuir Springless Valve system can be adapted to any engine, regardless of age.  We believe in the near future you will be able to buy a Decuir Springless Valve kit  for the car you own now.  Tomorrow you’ll be able to buy a brand new car with the Decuir Springless Valve system as standard equipment.  Tomorrow your diesel truck will also use this system.

Closer look at circular lobes that are the heart and sole of the Decuir springless valve drive system.

We want to caution all interested parties that Decuir Engine Technologies has spent a great deal of time getting patents for the Decuir Springless Valve.  Any attempt to copy this system would be met with immediate legal action.

Testing room at the Decuir engine laboratory features the latest Superflo Dyno.
