About the collections
There are four collections available through Magic Raven Photography. "The Ghosts of Highway 395," "High Mountains," "Highway 101," and "New England in the Fall."
Highway 395 parallels the Eastern slope of the Sierras starting near Mojave California and continuing north to Lake Tahoe. Many Southern California residents traveling to Mammoth or Lake Tahoe to ski sometimes rush though this area without realizing how dramatic and beautiful the Owens Valley can be. You can drive from low desert dryness, past dry lakes, through high desert Lava rock formations into the highest parts of the Sierras in just a few hours. The route follows the old roads the silver miners used to transport ore from long deserted mines by mule team to Los Angeles over one hundred and fifty years ago. Many of the Ghost towns, like Bodie, still exist and are fun to see and are included in this collection. Owens Lake is still there, now empty, its abundant waters long ago drained by the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power. And of course, the high mountains, heavy with snow in the winter, lush with fast running streams in the spring and summer, full of trout, (except when I go fishing) and great hiking trails, some taking hikers to one of the highest points in the United States, Mount Whitney. Across the valley are the Panamint mountains containing some of the oldest trees on earth and further east, Death Valley, the lowest point in the United States.
The High Mountains collection contains photographs of some of the most beautiful areas of the Sierras. Most were shot on hiking trips into upper mountain valleys where the snow almost never melts. Some were taken in the upper Panamint mountains in the Bristlecone National Forest. There is one from the Lake Tahoe area and several from areas near Mammoth like the Devils Post Pile.
Highway 101 contains photographs from areas up and down this famous Highway. Locations extend from the Northern Most areas of California like Point Arena to the San Pedro Wharfs in Southern California.
We just visited the New England area and were fortunate to make the trip when
fall foliage was at its peaked of bright colors. The photographs here
represent areas in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Vermont, and New Hampshire.
